Whilst Jenny’s
successful battle
with breast cancer
has given her a new
lease on life, it
has also given her a
sense of purpose to
help and support
those who are also
bravely fighting
breast cancer.
When Jenny and Carly
designed the
Fitgirls philosophy,
it became clear that
they wanted to help
people change their
lives through
fitness and
nutrition. But it
also became clear
that they needed to,
in some way, support
a foundation that
helps women who are
fighting breast
cancer. They needed
to know that their
business was going
beyond just helping
their clients.
It is this
philosophy that
promises a
proportion of every
fee received by Fitgirls will go to
the McGrath
Foundation.
Therefore, by
becoming a Fitgirls
client, you are also
joining the fight
against breast
cancer and helping
those women who are
currently battling
the disease.
The McGrath
Foundation was
co-founded by
cricketer Glenn
McGrath and his wife
Jane.
Jane was diagnosed
with breast cancer
in 1997 during an
Ashes Tour of the
UK. She went on to
have a mastectomy
and later a full
reconstruction.
Jane was
unfortunately
re-diagnosed with a
secondary tumor in
2003.
It was during this
second bout of
cancer that Jane was
lucky enough to
receive access to a
Breast Care Nurse.
She says it was like
having someone
holding your hand
through one of the
worst nightmares of
your life.
Jane now understands
the importance of a
Breast Care Nurse,
and she and Glenn
have therefore
decided that the
Foundation will aim
to raise funds to
provide as many
Breast Care Nurses
throughout Australia
as possible. Breast
Care Nurses are
specially trained
nurses who act as
patient advocates,
co-coordinating care
for women with
breast cancer, their
families and carers.
There are
many young women in
Australia being
diagnosed with
breast cancer every
year. Jane believes
that through the
Foundation, young
women can be
educated to be
breast aware and
understand the
importance of
self-examination.
